Students from Turkmenistan celebrated their country’s 25th year of independence and National Flag Day in OMU Atatürk Congress and Culture Center.
Turkmenistan Embassy First Secretary Murat Akmammedow, Vice Rector Prof. Sevilhan Mennan, Head of International Relations Office Assoc. Prof. Nalan Kızıltan, International Relations Office International Students Office Coordinator Asst. Prof. Buğra Genç, Farabi Institutional Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Bozoğlu, academicians and international students participated in the extensive event held OMU International Relations Office and International Students Society.
Turkmen youngsters choose OMU for education
In his speech, Murat Akmammedow said “About 7 thousand Turkmen students receive education in various regions of Turkey. OMU is the university with the greatest number of Turkmen youngsters across Turkey. This is the success of your university. We, as the Embassy, thanks all the academicians who contributed to the education of our youngsters”.
Let Turkish and Turkmenistan flags remain side by side at all times
Akmammedow also stressed the importance of the 25th
year of Turkmenistan’s independence and National Flag Day during his speech. “2016 is the 25th
anniversary of our independence. One of the nations who recognized the independence of Turkmenistan, who won her independence on October 27, 1991, is our sister nation Turkey. Furthermore, as you know, February 19th
is our national flag day. I celebrate this day sincerely and wish that the Turkish and Turkmenistan flags remain side by side at all times and thank you all for having organized this event.”
Prof. Sevilhan Mennan started her speech pointing out that Turkey and Turkmenistan are friendly and sister nations. Mennan stated “We are friendly and sister nations. Even the very first syllables of our nations’ names are common.”
We have about 300 Turkmen students here in OMU
Mennan said OMU, which has 53 thousand students, is ranked in the first three among the universities in Turkey with its number of international students, which is 2500. “We have about 300 Turkmen students in OMU. None of these students caused any problems. After successfully completing their education here at OMU, all of these students represented OMU beautifully in their home countries. I congratulate our Turkmen students especially because of their success in this. Furthermore, I celebrate the Independence of Turkmenistan and National Flag Day, which is today, before our Consul.”
After the speeches, students from Turkmenistan showed examples of their National dances and music. Sketches and poems prepared by students enlivened the celebrations which created colorful and joyful scenes. Students were applauded by the participants for their outstanding efforts.
The celebration ended with the presentation of Turkmenistan local costumes and meals.
